The Man Behind Notre-Dame

A dreadful fire in Notre-Dame cathedral this past April produced an enormous emotional reaction in France and throughout the world. The main spire and roof of the building collapsed in the blaze, though firefighters managed to save the overall structure and much of its interior and most of its precious relics. One firefighter was seriously injured, but, thankfully, no lives were lost.

Built 850 years ago, Paris’s Notre-Dame (which translates in English as “Our Lady”) has played a role in key moments of history and has captured the imagination of people around the world, drawing an estimated 13 million visitors a year. People across the globe are now mourning the damage caused by the fire.

Created before the fire, The Man Behind Notre-Dame is a powerful virtual reality film offering viewers a privileged encounter with the cathedral’s senior ecclesiastic Patrick Chauvet, the spiritual leader guiding Notre-Dame through its current challenges. The experience features a stunning 360° immersion into the building as it was before the blaze. The camera takes you to every corner of Notre-Dame, even to the top of one of its towers. As the Rector-Archpriest of one of the most revered monuments in the world, Patrick Chauvet sheds light on what Notre-Dame cathedral means in the 21st century.
